Islands in the Stream

Yew, Black Walnut, Stained Glass

110cm x 50cm x 45cm

Mel spotted these bookmatched boards of Yew and knew straight away thay were going to become a coffee table.

I wasn't so sure, as I don't normally work with waney edge timber, i.e. boards that keep the line of the bark and the shape of the tree.

It took us almost two years of sketching, modelling, marking out to find the best way to use them - and to design an underframe that would complement the top.

We're very pleased with the result: so much so that this piece now is the central point of our own living room.

What do you think of it?
